:: Are you planning on start or develop a modeling career ?
It is fact that all established model agencies are expecting their applicants to present professional photographs for their files. Top international companies do not accept amateur pics or snapshots.
To fulfill those high standards, all newcomers and semi-professionals have to provide the agencies with excellent photographs. HvB photography is offering this quality photo service.The female or male model can submit either a “Portfolio Book” and/or a “Sed Card”. It is ideal to have both.
:: What is a “Portfolio Book” or a “Sed Card” ?
A formal “Portfolio Book” is a plastic or leather booklet containing 6-12 pages. Minimum format is 8x10 inches. Each page is a strong plastic sleeve with a black paper insert sheet for mounting 1 large single image on the front side and 1 large photo on the back. The start page should present the stage name and personal stats. On the end page, one may mention special abilities, former modeling references and contact info. All together, such a book contains 10-24 images.
A formal “Sed Card” is a double-page sheet of heavy paper, usually printed. The standard format is 8x10 inches. On the front, Sed Cards show the stage name and one single full-page image, almost certainly a close portrait. It is best to use a picture with eye contact, the model looking into the camera. The back page can present 2-4 pictures, personal stats and contact information.
The name refers the British model agency Parker-Sed, whose co-owner Sebastian Sed invented those cards in the early sixties in order to have a standardized tool for booking and selecting models for the growing international business. Parker-Sed was among the first agencies operating worldwide, with branch offices in London, Hamburg and

:: What should a “Portfolio Book” or “Sed Card” show ?
It does not matter if one wants to start or develop a modeling career: Every Portfolio Book or Sed Card is supposed to present a general overview.
Models will need a variety of pictures with several different looks, outfits and locations in black-white and colour. This selection should document the model`s whole personality in various perspectives. It should contain headshots (face), portraits (half figure) and whole body shots (full figure).
Sed Cards, a.k.a. comp cards, are the most important propaganda instrument models have in promoting their service and features. They are also the main tool for booking agencies and photographers.
:: Johnny’s storybook modeling career
As an example, here is an account of a successful modeling career of an unknown young man who decided to go for it...
In December 1999, the athletic lad Johnny was discovered at the famous surfer area in Huntington Beach, California. The blond youngster had an impressive natural beauty that caught the eye of a scout.
One month later, Henning von Berg photographed 18 y/o Johnny at his location in Los Angeles. First with Johnny’s surfer buddy Chris at the swimming pool on Mount Olympus in the Hollywood Hills. Some days later, he was photographed with his girl friend Crystal in front of the hip fashion shops on Melrose Avenue.

:: Free consultation and “Casting” !
Are you a newcomer or a semi-pro, looking for a modeling career? You can fill out the model form below and send recent pictures to get a free consultation. We will answer every request immediately.
Afterwards there is a preliminary meeting between the photographer and the client so that both sides get to know each other better. This first meeting is called a “Casting”.
Every applicant will tell us which type of photographs they prefer (i.e. portrait sessions, fashion shots, artistic nudes, erotic nudes, etc.). Some people will have a great body with ‘perfect' definition and others might have a ‘beautiful' face. Some people are fortune to have both. Perhaps some can offer special abilities (i.e. acrobats, gymnasts, contortionists) and others will be able to do certain kinds of sport activities (i.e. modern or folk dancing, ballet, swimming, paragliding, surfing, rollerblading, roller-skating, boxing, kick-boxing, wrestling, ice-skating, skiing, etc.).
For amateur models without any experiences in front of the camera lens, the individual casting (at no charge) will offer many useful tips about the modeling business.
:: Custom “Model Shoots” are offered !
Henning von Berg is producing suitable photos that can be used for the preparation of professional Portfolio Books and/or printing of Sed Cards.
Everybody is welcome to book our services. We offer models a choice of two different kinds of custom modeling shoots.
“Model Shoot CLASSIC”:
A half-day shoot (2 locations and 2 outfits) for EUR €300,- (USD $350.-)
“Model Shoot EXCLUSIVE”:
A full-day shoot (4 locations and 4 outfits) for EUR €500,- (USD $600.-) Legal tax to be added.
All model shoots include a free casting meeting to talk about the details of the photo session. After the shoot, we will deliver a free CD-ROM with digital results of the shoot. In addition, there are 5 free custom enlargements on quality paper in two formats: 4 standard prints (size circa 13x18 cm is approximately 5x7 inches) plus 1 large print (size circa 20x30 cm is 8x10 inches) for the model's own Portfolio Book.
The prints also can be used for the printing of Sed Card sheets. On request, we will provide good print houses. The model is allowed to use their photos for all their personal projects (homepage, album, advertisements, publicity, etc.). If the shoot results in publishable photographs, we will be happy to use them in international publications. Upon our commercial success, the model will get his/her contractually arranged share of payment. Feel free to fill out the model form and don't hesitate to ask questions. Consultations are without charge.
:: Looking for international publicity ?
Do you have a fresh face, an athletic body, or a unique extravagant look? Are you willing to get published worldwide?
Henning von Berg and his team are constantly scouting to find potential models for future publications. However, we are not searching for super perfect beauties with a Marlene-Dietrich face or Arnold-Schwarzenegger muscles.
Preferred are people (both, female and male) with rather athletic or natural bodies. Important are a relaxed attitude and lots of charisma. Persons with interesting body jewellery (piercings/tattoos) and/or unique character faces are also very welcome. Our portfolio is wide open for all kinds of themes. HvB photography offers a wide forum for different types of all ages.
We are keeping an eye open for interesting types with a cool look. A friendly gaze is more provoking to us than a so-called 100% ‘perfect’ profile. Sometimes, an extravagant outfit or a funny hairdo is appealing to us also.
Henning von Berg is discovering new models everywhere, in for example on the streets, at parties, in restaurants, clubs, gyms and cafés. In addition, we welcome your online requests.
:: Perhaps you will be invited for an inexpensive “Test Shoot” ?
You are free to book a regular model shoot CLASSIC or EXCLUSIVE for the standard price. Just fill out the form.
In case we find your look or your abilities quite interesting, and if you agree to get international publicity, we will invite you to do a “Casting with Test Shoot” at a reduced price. For such a test we are charging only a small fee because we hope to see you published, soon.
During a Test Shoot, Henning von Berg can find out which people are relaxed when posing and who is open to unique ideas. We can also see who will fit in future projects. This is a fair deal for both sides. For the model, this is an inexpensive way to get professional pictures by a well-known photographer. For us it is a good way to find some fresh and new hidden talents.
Invited models have to pay only EUR €65,- (USD $75.-) for such a two hour “Test Shoot”.
:: Maybe you qualify for Henning von Berg's personal portfolio ?
If first of all, we find your look and/or your abilities especially interesting, and if, second, you were relaxed when posing, and if, third, you have not been afraid of doing artistic nudes, and if fourth, you have agreed to become published, then finally you will qualify for Henning von Berg's personal photography portfolio.
Under these special circumstances, you will be invited to do a "Portfolio Shoot" at no charge! That will be a half-day session to do an individual photo shoot with some fashion outfits and some nudes. All further details will be clarified via email.
For the selected model this is a wonderful way to get high-quality and FREE images by an internationally known photo artist. Who knows, perhaps one day some of the results will be published in HvB’s books or magazine articles.
